With a view to spreading quality open-source GNU Health Service Provider, Apagen was established in 2012 under the stewardship of three visionaries having SAP background. However, keeping an eye on providing proper and real ROIs, Apagen forayed into providing GNU Health services but with time, we realized that GNU Health had lost its efficacy as 100% open-source healthcare management software as it gradually populated its enterprise version in the market which was not 100% open source and did not come under AGPL licensing, the idea GNU Health had initiated in 2007. For the same reason, Apagen never partnered with GNU Health but opted to continue with GNU Health community version for the sake of providing 100% open-source implementation without any vendor lock-in. When we entered in the healthcare sector, we had observed that the number of patients was exorbitantly high and GNU Health was proving to be a weak application software to manage patients and their health with full efficiency. Consequently, doctors were unable to attend to patients due to heavy workload and not giving more than 30 seconds to 2 minutes to a patient. We also discovered that all individual doctors, hospitals, and healthcare units were successful in managing their system by healthcare management software and were facing software vendor lock-in in large ratio.

It was then we decided to embrace GNU Healthcare management software in 2016 and started providing an array of services that include Implementation, Mentorship of in-house team, In-house health desk establishment, Third-party integrations, GNU developers on contract and third-party audits for helping needy health care community to achieve optimal performance and provide singular healthcare services to the needy patients with full accuracy and proper diagnosis. Apagen team conceived the idea of creating more and more contributors to bolster this project GNU health to serve respective community assisting individual doctors to do away with vendor lock-in. We are also giving focused and consolidated efforts in providing educational training of GNU health, which is a health-care management software to develop a force of capable GNU health functional consultants, advisory consultants and technical consultants to assist entire community without any vendor lock-in.

GNU Health is a free software developed by an NGO and has been amazingly benefiting health institutions, health practitioners and health governments across the globe. It has brought about radical changes in the health-care industry and provides the functionality of Hospital Management (HMIS), Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Health Information System (HIS).
